"There’s something about punk music that fits perfectly with poetry. Lou Reed was an English major, Iggy Pop’s dad was a professor. Jim Morrison was a poet and the tradition trickled down to Patti Smith, Richard Hell, X, Sonic Youth, Maggie Estep, Tim Armstrong, Jello Biafra. They share a lot of traits so its no wonder punk and poetry are so connected: you make shit money, you piss a lot of people off, the creative release is better than a goddamn orgasm. They’re both dirty, painful, and real, and they both have to fight to be heard."
